and they all came tumbling down

The TV is rather depressing. It's so difficult trying to come to grips with all of this. I am so lucky that university was supposed to be going back this week, otherwise I would have been at work in Colombo St. Dear god, it's terrifying.

I was lucky that I at home. Everything we thought we got away with last time on my side of town we got in full force this time. The power and water went out, the drains backed up and flooded the road, silt bubbled up through warps and holes in the road and in peoples' gardens and driveways. Everything fell off the shelves at my place, where hardly anything fell off last time. I guess a few broken plates is nothing compared to what some people have to go through. I'm lucky that Mum has power on at her place and that's where I am now, with people to keep me company and water and lights. Lights! What a miraculous commodity!

So me and Sarah clung to each other in the hallway, outside our bedroom doors, waiting for things to settle down. The street outside was flooded for a while, silt and mud sweeping into the gutters. There wasn't much to do, considering the power was out all night. Sarah took off for Nelson first thing this morning, and then Mum came and got me and I've been safe and sound here ever since.

Thanks to everyone who has sent me messages of goodwill. We're all safe and accounted for. We don't know who has died yet, and I'm kind of worried that there will be somebody I know on the list.

I sold a cellphone to mute_jester's sister last week. I don't know if I was recognised, but ta for the commission guys! ;D

I am sunburned from the sun shining through the car windows on me when I was asleep. The underside of my chin is all pale, but my neck is red. Not like, blisters-and-peeling red, but red enough to feel hot. And my left arm is burned and my right arm isn't.

Damn only getting 4 hrs of sleep due to stupid Aches.

The limerick, peculiar to English,
Is a verse form that's hard to extinguish,
Once congress, in session,
Decreed it's suppression,
But people got around it by writing the last line without any rhyme or meter.
See what I did! I'm all pleased with it, it looks great! Only a couple more coats of varnish to go...

The Lion, the Witch and the Chest of DrawersCollapse )

Dawn Treader in less than 2 weeks! I'm so EXCITED!! XD

Also, Harry Potter was pretty good. They seemed to cover all the bases pretty much, there wasn't a lot left out. Enjoyable! Bring on July =)

Happy days are here again!

I am good today. You wouldn't believe how good I feel today! A nice, good, up mood to buoy me through. I feel optimistic about everything. It was sunny and so very warm and amazing, and I didn't have to be anywhere, and I bought candy canes (OH YES ITS THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN), and watched Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (which the gif there is from) which was ridiculous but funny, and I sat in the sun, and I did painting, and felt creative and wonderful, and then I had chips and wine for dinner, ahahaha! Oh, and I remembered the thing I have for Jen for her birthday for next time I see her! ^_^ which has been in my possession for aaaaages and I only just remembered about it. Things are looking hopeful for both my immediate future and my more long-term future, and those are the things that had been getting me down. Aaaaand, I might even just finish my dresser project that I have been working on FOREVER before the end of the year. Maybe before the end of the month, if I'm productive! And now I have HIMYM and Chuck to watch, WOOOOOO!

Boop boop boop!

Now I just need to arrange a haircut and decide if I'd rather teach Art, English, or History/Social Studies, and I'm a-ok!

happy birthday to you
you belong in the zoo
you look like a monkey
and you act like one too

AC/DC for ukulele, lols!

What a lovely evening! I do enjoy having a bit of a chinwag with my friends. And a tasty dinner, too!

A dog got its head stuck under the fence last night, I think. I didn't want to go out there. All that's there this morning is a bit of a ditch, a corner snapped off a paling, and some hair caught on the edges. Or maybe it was trying to get under the fence and couldn't. In that case, it certainly kept on trying. It must have been following a cat or something, cos they slip under all the time. Stupid dog. I wasn't going out there by myself at 2am. Have you never seen Supernatural? That's how people get killed! I'm not stupid.

Did I ever mention how Back To The Future is just about my favourite movie ever? I might have? yeeeeah. The guy in this spoof does a brilliant Christopher Lloyd voice.

So I've managed to lose my iPod. In the space of unplugging it in the living room and going to my bedroom to take off my hoodie, I've managed to misplace it. Bravo, me! That's just brilliant.

Okay, I'm going to go have a fight with my sewing machine now.

ETA: Crisis averted! iPod found! =D

This was me upon hearing the news that:

Martin Freeman is set to star as Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's two-movie adaptation of The Hobbit.

Richard Armitage, who stars on the U.K. series MI-5 and will appear in Captain America: The First Avenger, is set to play Thorin Oakenshield, [...] Aidan Turner (Being Human) and Rob Kazinsky (EastEnders) will play Kili and Fili, respectively.

Expected to return from the Lord of the Rings films is Ian McKellen as Gandalf and Andy Serkis as Gollum.

from here

PLEEEEEEEEEEAAAASE let the threatened-but-now-guaranteed-not-to-happen strike action not take this film away from us! OMG PLEASE!

Guys, would anyone be up for a trip to Wellington to go Watson/Mitchell spotting?? ;D

Also, Chuck is the most awesome show. People who told me to watch it, you were so right, and I'm only sorry I put it off this long. I'm up to season 4 now! Woo! but guh, Zachary Levi's smile... *melts*

you snooze, you lose

Damn, I missed sign-ups for yuletart this year. I missed the post saying sign-ups are now, dammit, stupid business closing and me forgetting about it.

Job hunting is a stupid stupid thing and I wish I could conscientiously object and still receive an income.

So's your mum!

Historic examples of Yo Mama jokes:

William Shakespeare used such a device in Act I Scene 1 of Timon of Athens:

Painter: "Y'are a dog."
Apemantus: "Thy mother's of my generation. What's she, if I be a dog?"

Also in Act IV, Scene II of Titus Andronicus, Aaron taunts his lover's sons:

Demetrius: "Villain, what hast thou done?"
Aaron: "That which thou canst not undo."
Chiron: "Thou hast undone our mother."
Aaron: "Villain, I have done thy mother."

Thanks, Wiki!
